** Disabled Sports Championships 2011** |

As you probably know, District 1100 currently enters two teams to compete in the Rotary Disabled Sports Championships two day event in Coventry in November - the Gloucester Team and the Avon Team. The Avon Team, whose participants are currently members of either The Avon Swifts Sports Club, St Roses School and Paul's Place, have vacancies for junior members aged under 16 years. |

Do you know anybody who would like to join our team? Please ask your club members and contacts. Our athletes are accompanied by their carers as appropriate. The competition is open to individuals who have either a physical or learning disability and a significant number of the team's competitors are wheelchair users. |

Events include a wheelchair slalom, wheelchair pit stop relay, swimming, new age kurling, boccia, table tennis, darts, rifle shooting and triathlon (which is made up of static rowing,static cycling & swimming). There is also a weightlifting event where participants do a bench press. |

A male and female junior competitor is required to take part in the swimming, table tennis and weightlifting events, and a junior competitor of either gender is required to be part of our team in both the wheelchair slalom and wheelchair pit stop relay. A junior competitor could also be asked to participate in any of the other events however at this point in time the team already has these areas covered. |

The Team with their carers travel to Coventry together in a coach and stay overnight in a hotel all paid for by Rotary. It is a marvellous weekend with a lot of fun and friendship. Teams are very competitive but it is the spirit of participation and endeavor that is most important and just doing the best you can. |
