Competition Rules
Team Rules
1. The competition will comprise three or four teams competing in the preliminary rounds.
2. Each team will consist of three Rotarians.
3. A nominated team in each group will be responsible for fixing the date and arranging the venue.
4. The second and third teams will be responsible for providing one time-keeper and one scorer.
5. The Quizmaster must be selected from the official list.
6. No Quizmaster may preside when his own Club is competing.
7. No Quizmaster may be a member of a Team.
8. It is hoped that Clubs will invite partners to add to the fellowship of these occasions.
Quiz Rules
1. The Quizmaster is in full charge of the conduct of the Quiz and is at all times right even when he is patently wrong.
2. The team captains will draw for the positions A,B,C or D. Questions will be put to each team in turn, A1,B1,C1,D1 then A2,B2,C2,D2 and so on for the first five rounds. For rounds 6-10 the first question will go the D team (or C if only three Clubs are competing) with the order D1,C1,B1, A1 and so on. This will even things out if there is a weak or strong team.
3. Each question is put to the appropriate contestant, who is allowed up to 30 seconds to answer. If he gives a wrong answer the question is passed to the team on his left. If he is unable to answer the team can confer. They are allowed 15 seconds to answer. If the team fails to answer or gives the wrong answer the question is passed to the team on their left. The Quizmaster will repeat the question to the team and they must answer by return – no time is allowed for conferring. If they fail the question is passed to the team on their left and the procedure is repeated.
4. Scoring: 3 points for an individual answer; 2 points for a team answer; 1 point for an answer from an opposing team
5. If no team gives the right answer it should be offered to the audience.
6. The team with the highest accumulated score at the end is the winner. In the event of the scores being equal the team with highest number of individual (3 point) answers is the winner. If that fails to give a result the team with the greatest number of team (2 point) answers is the winner. If there is still no clear winner the Quizmaster’s decision is final.
7. All present are reminded that the same set of questions are used for all matches in a given round, and are therefore asked to be discreet when talking to other Clubs who may not yet have had their match.
