Help To Save The Lifeline Express |
|
The Lifeline Express is a fully-equipped modern hospital on a train, which has been
taking health care along the rail tracks of India since 1991. During 75 projects
across the length and breadth of the country 400,000 people have been examined by
medical teams and 105,000 have received life-transforming treatment including surgery
to restore sight, movement or hearing, or to repair disabling cleft lip. |
 |
|
Without the
Lifeline Express, most of these people would have remained disabled for life. Many
more have benefited from training or health education demonstrating that causes of
disability are so often preventable at low cost |
|
Fourteen years of service have taken their toll in India's harsh climate. We have
been informed that the existing Lifeline Express will soon no longer be safe to
operate on the railway. The original coaches therefore now urgently need to be replaced
if the hospital train is to continue its vital work. After much negotiation, four
second-hand carriages have been made available by the Ministry of Railways. Currently
these have been shunted into a siding in Mumbai near the Railway Workshops. A full
description of the required work, and a detailed breadown of costs can be found
in the attached Adobe pdf file. |
|
The costs to renovate and re-equip the Lifelien Express are: |
Renovate four carriages - £133,766
Replace air-conditioning system - £32,467
New Equipment - £89,571 |
|
Total estimated cost - £255,804 |
