This competition is designed to encourage those vital life skills of marshalling ideas into a coherent argument and presenting them to an audience with confidence and authority. |
D1100 has run this event very successfully for many years and there are plenty of clubs who can pass on first hand advice. |
The competition requires a team of three young people. Firstly a Chairman who controls the meeting, welcoming guests and introducing the main speaker. Then the Speaker delivers a short address, no more than 6 minutes, on his/her chosen topic and must be prepared to answer a question from the audience. Finally the third team member delivers a vote of thanks to the speaker. |
The competition has two age groups: Intermediate for 11-13 yr. olds and Senior 14-18 yr olds. Age is calculated as at 31st August 2010. Every rotary club is entitled to submit a team in each of the age groups into the District final. Where a number of clubs jointly organise a competition, each of the participating clubs may submit an entry to one or both of the age groups. |

The National Final will be held on Sunday 1st May 2011 at Cranleigh. To fit in with that date, District finals will have to be held by the end of February 2011. To that end clubs should aim to complete their own competitions by mid January latest. in addition it would very helpful if clubs could let Bryan Bamber know of their intention of running a Youth Speaks competition by 24th October 2010. |

The RIBI National rules of Youth Speaks for 2011 are attached below. |
